GOD'S KINGDOM ANNOUNCED |
" Daniel 2:44-45
“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.
45 “Inasmuch as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is true and its interpretation is trustworthy.”
A. Brief background
Although several hints are given in the Bible about the coming everlasting Kingdom of God, none is as vivid as the revelations given to Prophet Daniel's, in terms of timelines, and of the preceding vital events.
To recap, due to the SIN of Idolatry, the Jews had been taken into captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar, as prophesied earlier on by prophet Jeremiah around 586 BC.
Whilst in Babylon, the king of Babylon, king Nebuchadnezzar, had a terrible dream, of which he urgently needed interpretation from the wise men of the land.
Failure to satisfy the king's difficult request was expected to attract immediate death sentence for all the wise men, including Daniel and his friends.
However, Daniel and his friends were miraculously promoted by God and shot into prominence, for none of the Babylonian wise men could fulfill the king's demand, except Daniel.
Not only did Daniel interpret the dream, but he also could make known the dream itself to the King, which the King - the dreamer, had forgotten.
In this dream, God's revealed his future plans to bring to an end the kingdom of men, and to establish His own Everlasting Kingdom, a kingdom that never shall come to an end.
B. Highlights of Daniel 2:44-45
From Daniel 2:44-45,
the following facts were made bare;
• The reign of the kings of the earth will be terminated one day
• God's kingdom will replace human kingdoms
• God's kingdom once, ushered in, will never have an end.
From the above revelation, it is no longer a matter of 'if', but 'when' will God's kingdom come, and how will that kingdom come?
The answer to these momentous questions are encapsulated in, what is famously referred to as, Daniels 70 weeks vision,
Daniels 70 weeks vision. Daniel 9:24
Angel Gabriel said to Daniel; “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Daniel 9:24
